Newsletter - No. 74

8/28/2020

Dear Members,

This is the time of the year when you would normally expect to be receiving a
Newsletter and Programme Card for the forthcoming year.

Unfortunately we are living through an unprecedented situation. One that will,
without doubt, be recorded in detail in the History books of the future.
The Committee and I have been able to share our thoughts about the situation
and have arrived at a consensus of opinion which we hope will meet with your
approval.

We are very conscious of the loyalty of our members. You turn out in force
whatever the weather conditions or the time of year. With this in mind and the
fact that we want to protect us all from danger we propose the following:
We will not resume our normal indoor meetings until at least January.
Everybody who is a member will remain a member for the forthcoming year,
without the need to reapply and without having to pay a subscription. A free
year, in other words, to reward you for your loyalty in the past.

Anyone who has expressed an interest in joining may do so free of charge.
There will not be the normal AGM before Christmas, but you will be receiving
another Newsletter towards the end of the year with an update on the situation.
Sadly, one member will no longer be with us. Beryl Street passed away,
following a stroke, on 22nd May.

We wish you all a safe summer. Stay well and we look forward to seeing you as
soon as it is safe to do so.

Judy Davies

Event updates for 2020

Dear Members,

Unfortunately this is not the way my normal April Newsletter goes out. Usually it contains the details of our proposed July coach outing. However, today all I can do is to clarify that our History Society’s evening meetings are cancelled, as well as the trip we were planning to the Richard III Museum and the Cathedral in Leicester.

We sincerely hope that normal service will be resumed in September. As usual your August Newsletter will contain the form for you to rejoin for the forthcoming year.
Because of the problems with getting copies printed this letter may well reach you by email instead of by post. If, any members find they have not received a copy, by one means or another, please accept our apologies.

Until then the committee and I wish everyone good health, a safe passage through these troubled times, keep in touch with your friends – and keep smiling.

Judy Davies and all the History Society Committee members.
